Manchester United were interested in Germany international Julian Brandt but the 23-year-old went to Dortmund

Manchester United are in the market for new recruits and were keen on signing Julian Brandt from Bayer Leverkusen, according to The MEN.
But the Red Devils missed out on landing the 23-year-old winger because they reportedly touched base with Leverkusen too late, enabling Dortmund to get in there ahead of them and sign Brandt for just £22million.

Manchester United fans are understandably unhappy about this latest transfer update, as it once again shows other clubs doing business around the Red Devils.
United were originally linked with Brandt's new Dortmund team-mate Jadon Sancho, but cooled their interest in him after missing out on Champions League football.

The club's attention turned to Brandt, but before United could convince him to relocate to the UK, Dortmund signed him alongside Thorgan Hazard and Nico Schulz with the money from the sale of Christian Pulisic to Chelsea.
Reacting to the news, one Red Devils supporter tweeted: "Man Utd 'made enquiry for Julian Brandt' and were told he was joining Dortmund.
"Whilst we were busy 'following' him and 'weighing up' offers, Dortmund were sealing treble deals."
Another added: "Julian Brandt and Thorgan Hazard for a combined fee of £45m.
"That's real business. On the side of Manchester - Ashley Young is set to be named Man United captain!"
In more positive Manchester United news, the club has agreed personal terms with Daniel James, who is set to leave Swansea for the Red Devils.
United were keen on bolstering their attack by signing Brandt alongside the 21-year-old Welshman, but must look elsewhere following this latest set-back.
Upon signing for Dortmund, Brandt told the club's official website: "I am a person who sometimes decides things from the gut and for whom a good feeling is important.

"In the case of Borussia Dortmund, I have a very good feeling.
"One of the main reasons for my change is that BVB narrowly missed the title last season, so there is room for improvement and I am very excited about the boys.
"I am very motivated and optimistic about my personal development but especially the whole team."
