JUST IN: Chelsea beats Arsenal to Agree deal for Champions League winner
Chelsea defender David Luiz has officially put pen to paper to sign a new contract extension with the club .
The London club took to their official website to announce that the Brazilian has officially extended his contract, which was formerly set to expire this summer, that will see him at the club till the summer of 2021.
The Brazil international, who was seen to have dropped down the pecking order during the tenure of former manager Antonio Conte, have been quite formidable at the back for Maurizio Sarri this season as appeared 48 times in all competitions scoring three goals.
The 30-year-old defender has helped the West London club to the Europa League final as they will be facing direct rivals Arsenal after sending Eintracht Frankfurt packing in the semi-finals.
Speaking to the club official website, he said: “I am so happy to be here and to have this opportunity to stay. I love this club and I still have the ambition of a young player.
“It means a lot to reach another European final, and we still have the opportunity to finish in the top three of the Premier League this season and I will continue to try to do my best to help the team.”
In his entire Chelsea career so far, Luiz have been able to bag 246 appearances and netting 18 goals in total for the club, which saw him lift one Premier League title, one Champions League, Europa League and FA Cup.
Chelsea director Marina Granovskaia also said:”We are delighted David Luiz will be staying with the club.
“He has set the perfect example to those around him throughout the campaign and been a huge influence on and off the pitch.
“With the Europa League final still to come, we hope to finish off the season with silverware and David will be central to that success in Baku and beyond.”
