With the transfer window slowly closing in on us, Chelsea manager Maurizio Sarri has taken to the media to announce that the club have agreed to keep Olivier Giroud for a second season with the club.
The World Cup winner contract with the Blues was set to expire by the end of the season, but turns out he will be staying for another season thanks to an option in his contract with the Blues.
The Frenchman arrived at the Stamford Bridge from close rival Arsenal during last year winter transfer window, and has since then struggled to earn a first eleven of the club due to competition from Alvaro Morata, Gonzalo Higuain and even playmaker Eden Hazard.
Earlier this month, Giroud was reported to have been thinking about options away from the London club due to his limited game time.
In Spite of being linked away from the Europa League semi-finalist, Giroud will be spending his 2019/20 campaign with the London club.
Speaking to the press, Sarri said: “He is sure [to stay] because the club has an option for another year, another season,”
“I spoke to the club two days ago and we agreed to exercise the option.
“So, he will remain.”

Olivier Giroud has been a key figure for the club in the Europa League, scoring 10 goals in 11 appearances to help them reach the semi finals.
