Ronaldo’s 40th Career Hattrick Helps Madrid To Club World Cup Title
Real Madrid decided to do it the hard way in their Club World
cup final encounter against the Kashima Antlers to win the 2016 Club
World Cup title. Down 2-1 with minutes to go in regular time, it took a
hat-trick from Cristiano Ronaldo to turn the match on its head and
ensure silverware for the Spaniards.
Despite Real Madrid opening the scoring as early as the 9th minute through French striker, Karim Benzema, Shibasaki equalized just on the stroke of half-time.
Shibasaki completed his brace in the 52nd minute, taking the lead for the first time in the encounter. The first goal of Ronaldo’s 40th career hat-trick came in the 60th minute from the penalty spot after Lucas Vasquez was brought down.
